Do you know the Kakapo bird ?

The Kakapo is the only flightless parrot and most endangered bird in the world. 

Appearance:

The Kakapo is green, yellow and has a bit of black feathers. It’s cuter than a kitten (a new born one)

The eyes of the Kakapo are at the front of its head (like an owl)

Habitat:

A Kakapo lives not on Mainland New Zealand but on offsore remote islands that are forested. 

They live on these islands because of predators like possums, cats and dogs that were brought here by people.

Movement: 

A Kakapo climbs trees (yes it climbs trees!) They use their beak and claws to climb because their wings are too small to fly.

Diet:

They eat Rimu tree seeds. Also leaves, buds, bulbs, fruits and flowers. It uses its beak to eat things off of trees.

Breeding:

To catch female Kakapo attention, the males boom or ching like squawking. The eggs of Kakapo are bone white. 

Special Features:

Kakapo are 58-64 cm long. The males can weigh 2-4 kgs, females 1-2.5 kgs. As cute as it is, it is New Zealand's most endangered bird. They used to be able to be found in almost every tree in NZ. Sadly there are only 154 left on earth.

We have been learning about these two birds for inquiry and writing this term.
We  have written information reports on them.
I found this easy because all I had to do is remember facts about the birds we have already researched. I realised in this activity that these two birds are both very endangered and cannot fly but there are so many things about them that they are different.
My next step is to learn facts about Native New Zealand Trees

I have been learning to use powerful sentences. I found it hard to think up powerful sentences like my 2nd one. My next step is think faster and make more ideas

1. We learnt about that he is on statues and on the $5 note 

2. He climbed to the summit of Mt Everest

3. Him and his helper  had chocolate before he back down to the bottom of Mt Everest 

4. He was knighted and became Sir Edmund Hillary
